Orion Constellation

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Orion is a prominent constellation located on the celestial equator and visible throughout the world. It is one of the most conspicuous and recognizable constellations in the night sky. It was named after Orion, a hunter in Greek mythology. Its brightest stars are Rigel and Betelgeuse, a blue-white and a red supergiant, respectively."

This single  image was probably taken with a Nikon SLR camera using film and a 50mm lens riding piggyback on a refractor telescope on an AP 600 mount at the Winter Star Party on the Floridia Keys around 2006.  After an unknown exposure time, the shutter was closed, a fog filter was added, and the exposure resumed for a short period.  This technique helps make the brighter stars in a constellation stand out better.
