Solar Eclipse August 21, 2017

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The solar eclipse of August 21, 2017, dubbed "The Great American Eclipse" by the media, was a total solar eclipse visible within a band across the entire contiguous United States, passing from the Pacific to the Atlantic coasts."

My wife and I chased this eclipse in my pickup camper starting from Maryland and ending in Glendo, WY because weather forecasts kept pushing us westward.  Two imaging setups were used.  One with a Questar 3.5" telescope at FL 1500mm with a Canon 6D DSLR camera.  The other setup was a Stellarvue 80mm FL 480mm refractor telescope with a Canon T2i DSLR camera.  Both setups were controlled with a Windows laptop running Eclipse Orchestrator software to automate the multiple bracketed images.

This composite image of the extended corona was make with four sequences of images each ranging from 1/640 sec to 0.4 sec at ISO 200 taken with the Stellarvue telescope and Canon T2i camera.
